Match Recap
Nene Dorgeles delivered the knockout blow twice, turning a nervy start into a rout as Mali saw off Cape Verde Islands 3-1 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Cape Verde actually struck first through Sidny Lopes Cabral in the 10th minute, but that response came only after Ange Martial Tia had already put Mali ahead inside five minutes. Dorgeles then took over, scoring either side of the break in the 39th and 51st minutes to seal the points and stamp his name on the qualifying campaign, a double that puts him just one goal behind M. Munetsi at the very top of the scoring charts. For a Mali side that needed a statement result, getting it through a player now firmly in the league's top ten scorers is exactly the kind of form they'll want heading into their next qualifier. Cape Verde Islands, for all their early promise, simply had no answer once Dorgeles found his rhythm. Watch how Tia's fifth-minute opener set the tone, then see both of Dorgeles' finishes that turned a tight qualifier into a statement win.
