Match Recap
FC Volendam blitzed VVV Venlo with two goals in the opening seven minutes and rode that fast start through a five-goal shootout to win 3-2 in the Eerste Divisie. Henk Veerman opened the scoring in the 5th minute, and Y. Jaber el Maftahi doubled it two minutes later before Eanna Clancy pulled one back for Venlo in the 16th. Reuven Niemeijer restored the cushion just before halftime, and although L. Schmidt's 81st-minute strike set up a nervy finish, the three points stayed home. The result cuts against the table: Venlo came in third with 15 points and four wins from their last five, while Volendam sit 13th on 9, so this was the lower-placed side doing the damage. None of the match's five scorers currently sit among the Eerste Divisie's top ten, where D. Zandbergen leads with 15 goals, but Veerman and El Maftahi's early burst is exactly why this one is worth watching back from kickoff.
