Newcastle Jets 1–1 Macarthur

Bertoncello needed just five minutes to get Newcastle Jets on the board against Macarthur, slotting home the kind of early strike that should have set up a cruising afternoon. Instead, the Jets spent the next hour and a half hanging on. Macarthur's Toure drew it level in the 70th, continuing a pattern between these two: this was the third meeting in recent memory, and the away side has now won two of them. Toure's goal also nudges Macarthur to 3 points and fourth in the A-League table after one game, while Newcastle Jets sit sixth with a single point from their opener. Bertoncello's finish wasn't just a nice start, either — it puts him on 8 goals for the season, inside the league's top ten scorers, just four behind leader S. Cosgrove. A 1-1 draw tells you little about how this one actually played out. Watch Bertoncello's fifth-minute opener and see how long Newcastle Jets held that lead before Macarthur's Toure cancelled it out in the 70th.
