N. Verschuren rescued a point for Sparta Rotterdam in the sixth minute of stoppage time, turning what looked like a painful Eredivisie defeat into a breathless 3-3 draw against Utrecht. The home side had trailed twice on a night that produced six goals and precious little calm for either defence. M. Didden put Utrecht ahead on 16 minutes, M. Young leveled on the stroke of half-time, then A. Stepanov restored the visitors' lead just 60 seconds into the second half. M. Zonneveld drew Sparta level again on 67 minutes, only for A. Blake to make it 3-2 on 76. It looked like Utrecht, sitting 15th in the Eredivisie standings with a single point from three matches, had finally ended their wait for a win. Instead, Verschuren had other ideas in the dying seconds, sending a point Sparta's way and keeping their four-point tally intact after the only previous meeting between these sides also went the home team's way.
