Match Recap
Vincent Janssen turned Providence Park into his personal stage on Sunday, completing a hat-trick in the most chaotic Major League Soccer match of the season as the Portland Timbers edged Minnesota United FC 5-4 in a nine-goal riot. Janssen opened in the 11th minute, doubled up in the 26th, and then buried the hat-trick goal just ten minutes into the second half to put Portland back in front after Minnesota had dragged themselves level. The Timbers had actually built a four-goal lead through Ariel Lassiter and Drake Callender also striking in the 20th minute, only for Marcus Caldeira to score twice for the Loons, either side of Anthony Markanich's 37th-minute pull-back, to make it genuinely nervy. Kristoffer Velde's 71st-minute finish eventually sealed it. Portland, who had not beaten Minnesota in their last three meetings, collected three points to reach 28 in the standings. Caldeira's brace and Janssen's third goal, scored in the same frantic ten-minute window between the 50th and 55th minutes, is the sequence you need to see for yourself.
