Match Recap
F. Lencioni announced himself with a brace as Gimnasia M. dismantled Independiente 3-0 away from home in the Liga Profesional Argentina, leaving the Rojo without a win in four of their last five outings. E. Fernandez set the tone just before the break in the 42nd minute, and Lencioni doubled the lead eight minutes into the second half before adding a second of his own at the hour mark to seal a comprehensive demolition. The result is all the more striking given Independiente's superior points tally — 24 to Gimnasia's 19 — yet the visitors arrived riding four wins from their last five games and played every bit like the in-form side. Gimnasia had not beaten Independiente in their only previous recent meeting, but they more than made up for that here. Lencioni's 60th-minute finish, the goal that killed any lingering hope, is the one to watch.
