Match Recap
Robert Damus refused to let this one finish quietly. New Mexico United looked to have Birmingham Legion beaten, storming from 1-0 down to lead 4-1 by the 66th minute through Zach Bailey, Neco Reid-Stephen, Greg Hurst and Johnny Melto Quiah. Then Damus, who opened the scoring in the 11th minute, struck again in the 77th and completed his brace with a stoppage-time equalizer in the ninth added minute, sandwiched around Gabriel Diarbian's 87th-minute leveler, to drag Birmingham back from the dead for a 4-4 draw in USL Championship play. It's an eight-goal thriller that says plenty about where these two clubs stand: New Mexico United sit second with 41 points and two wins from their last five, while Birmingham, mired in 11th without a win in that same stretch, will still take real belief from staging one of the league's great comebacks. League scoring leader R. Williams got his goal too, but it's Damus's name on the storyline. Watch how Birmingham's stoppage-time leveler unfolds in the highlights below.
