Match Recap
Elche came into this one bottom of the pack, winless and leaking, but Fernando Niño Rodríguez didn't get the memo. He struck twice inside three second-half-bound minutes, in the 26th and 29th, to send Elche two goals clear at RCDE Stadium before Espanyol had time to settle. Víctor Chust pulled one back for the hosts in the 72nd, but Germán Valera restored the two-goal cushion six minutes later to seal a 3-1 win. It's Elche's first victory of the La Liga season after a run of five straight defeats, while Espanyol's own patchy form continues despite sitting well above their visitors in the table. Espanyol had won the previous meeting between these two and drawn the other, so history offered no warning of this. With Kylian Mbappé still running away with the league's scoring charts, days like this are how a team clings to the picture, and Niño Rodríguez just gave Elche their first real shove upward. Watch both of his strikes, six second-half minutes apart, that flipped this game before Espanyol could react.
