Match Recap
Tolu Arokodare needed just nine minutes to settle this one, finishing early and leaving AZ Alkmaar chasing the game for the rest of the afternoon. Ajax made it count in the Eredivisie table too, climbing to third on 21 points while AZ sit two spots and a point behind in fifth, their LDLWD run doing them no favours against a home side riding a much steadier WWDDW stretch. The two sides had only met once recently, a draw, so this narrow 1-0 edges Ajax into the early lead in that fledgling rivalry. Neither R. Pepi nor any of the league's other top scorers found the net here, which only sharpens the focus on Arokodare's early strike as the difference-maker. It wasn't a rout, and AZ had the rest of the match to find an equaliser, but Ajax's defence made sure one goal was enough. Watch how Arokodare gets in behind to open the scoring in the 9th minute, the moment that decided the whole afternoon.
