Match Recap
Ernest Nuamah did it twice inside the first half hour, and Lyon never let Rennes back into the game. The winger opened the scoring in the 7th minute and doubled it in the 30th, turning what looked like a routine Ligue 1 fixture into a one-sided demolition before halftime even arrived. Zachary Athekame made it three three minutes into the second half, and Corentin Tolisso put the finishing touch on a 4-0 rout in the 76th. The scoreline is even more striking given where both sides sat coming in: Rennes arrived on a three-game winning run and sitting fourth, while Lyon were two spots below them in fifth. Head-to-head history offered no clue either, with the pair splitting their last two meetings. None of that mattered once Nuamah got going. Lyon's front line did the damage that E. Lepaul and the rest of Ligue 1's scoring charts couldn't claim credit for this time. Watch Nuamah's second goal, the one that turned a promising Rennes start into a full collapse, in the highlights below.
