Match Recap
Mainz didn't need fireworks in Gelsenkirchen, just one clinical finish. Phillip Tietz struck in the 24th minute, and that solitary goal was enough to see FSV Mainz 05 take all three points off FC Schalke 04 in this Bundesliga clash. The win nudges Mainz up to ninth on 7 points, continuing a season that's swung between LWLWD form, while Schalke stay stuck at 14th with just one win from five, their LDWDL run showing exactly the kind of inconsistency that cost them again here. It wasn't a rout and it didn't need to be: Tietz found the gap, Mainz's back line did the rest, and Schalke never found an answer. For a team still searching for rhythm, a single early strike proved impossible to overturn. Catch Tietz's 24th-minute winner and see exactly how Mainz carved Schalke open in the video highlights below.
