Match Recap
AEL finally got the better of Anorthosis, ending a two-game losing run in the head-to-head with a commanding 2-0 victory in the 1. Division. H. Catakovic broke the deadlock just before the interval in the 42nd minute, and Y. Gomis made it two within five minutes of the restart to put the tie firmly to bed. The pair of goals either side of half-time told the story of a home side in complete control, giving Anorthosis no foothold after the break. Both clubs enter the campaign with fresh slates, but it is AEL who bank the opening-weekend momentum after overturning a record that had twice gone against them. With league top-scorer R. Mmaee already sitting on 21 goals for the season, the 1. Division is shaping up as a sharp competition, and Gomis's cool finish in the 50th minute is the kind of goal you need to see to appreciate how quickly AEL took over.
