Match Recap
Iñaki Williams needed until the 79th minute to save Athletic Club from a defeat that would have been hard to explain. Elche, winless and sitting 19th in La Liga after five rounds, had taken a surprise lead through Facundo Buonanotte five minutes into the second half and held it for the better part of half an hour at San Mamés. The Basque side, fresh off back-to-back wins that had them looking comfortable in mid-table, had to scramble to avoid losing points to the division's most out-of-form side. Williams' equaliser keeps Athletic Club level on seven points but squanders the chance to push further up the standings, while Elche claim their first point since matchday one and their first positive result in La Liga against Athletic Club in recent meetings. It is not the result either camp planned for. Watch the Williams strike that denied Elche a historic away win.
