Newells Old Boys 2–1 Banfield

M. Coccaro did what no Newells Old Boys player had managed in their last two meetings with Banfield, and he did it twice. The striker struck in the 51st and 77th minutes to hand Newells a two-goal cushion in their Liga Profesional Argentina clash, snapping a run of back-to-back defeats against this opponent. Banfield arrived with 18 points to Newells' 15 and pressed hard to claw their way back in. They eventually did, when Sepulveda lashed one in eight minutes into stoppage time, but by then the damage was done. Newells held on for a 2-1 result that finally flips a painful head-to-head trend. The Coccaro brace is worth watching from start to finish, but it is his 77th-minute strike, the one that effectively closed the door, that you really cannot miss.
