Match Recap
Six goals and a penalty shootout, Atletico-MG needed both to get past Santos in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana. The scoreline read 4-2, but the tie only broke from the spot after ninety-plus minutes of end-to-end football. It reversed the recent trend too: Santos had won two of the previous three meetings between these sides, with the other drawn, so history was not on Atletico-MG's side going in. Table position tells a similar story of momentum: Atletico-MG sit top of their group on 10 points with a red-hot WWDLW run, while Santos slip to second on 7 after a stretch of four straight draws. Santos still carry the competition's sharpest weapon in Gabriel Barbosa, the Sudamericana's leading scorer with four goals, but even that threat could not save them from a shootout Atletico-MG were built to win. A six-goal shootout thriller does not happen often. Catch every goal that forced the drama in the highlights below.
